This online EPC Update and Post-summit Briefing will analyse the results of the informal meeting of EU leaders in Budapest on 8 November and the potential impact of the US elections on 5 November.
Will EU leaders agree on a “New European Competitiveness Deal” and if so, what will it entail? Will they be able to reach a consensus on concrete next steps for the future of the single market, the creation of a “Savings and Investments Union” or the elaboration of a coherent European industrial policy? Will they follow the recommendations made in the reports by Enrico Letta and Mario Draghi or shy away from implementing key elements? And will the EU27 be able to tackle possible contradictions between security, openness, access to technology, and competitiveness? Looking across the Atlantic, what are the potential political and economic consequences of the US elections and how will EU leaders react to the outcome? Will they be able to agree on a united approach towards the new administration in the White House or struggle to do so?
Participation is open to EPC members only, the media and EU officials.
