As Russia’s war of attrition against Ukraine approaches its third anniversary, thousands of Ukrainian captured defenders and civilian hostages remain in Russian captivity. Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs) are reportedly subject to ill-treatment and other forms of abuse, violating international humanitarian law.

This in-person conference is organised in cooperation with the European Conservatives and Reformists Group (ECR Group) in the European Parliament, the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, and the Mission of Ukraine to the European Union. The conference will bring forth testimonies of Ukrainian prisoners of war and families of POWs, including members of the 36th Mariupol infantry brigade. The discussion will shed light on the alarming rise of Russian atrocities against Ukrainian POWs and the urgent need for the exchange of the remaining Ukrainian POWs. Lastly, effective pathways for the European Parliament and the Polish Presidency to support the exchange process of POWs and aid survivors and their families will be discussed.

Participation is open to EPC members, the media, EU officials, invitations of the European Conservatives and Reformists Group (ECR Group) and the Ukrainian Mission to the EU
