Associate Director of Strategic Communications/Head of the Comms and Events Team







The European Policy Centre is a leading independent think tank in the heart of Brussels providing balanced, impactful research to progress the goals of our mission for greater European integration. In the context of the volatile, fast-moving world marked by profound change and deep, consecutive crises, the EPC is recruiting an Associate Director of Strategic Communications/Head of the Comms and Events to co-lead the EPC into the future. This means promoting our thought leadership, maximising our impact in EU policy and public debates, and maintaining and strengthening our position as a leading think tank. The incumbent will be a member of the EPC’s Management Team with a horizontal strategic role, and vertical managerial responsibilities with regards to the Communications and Events Team.  

The successful candidate will have sharp political instincts combined with an experienced capacity to respond to rapidly changing European and global events. He/She/They will already have, or quickly develop, an in-depth knowledge of the EPC’s publications and events in order to be able to craft key messages targeting the relevant actors to maximise our impact in a timely manner.

 

As the manager of the Communications and Events team, the candidate will be able to ensure that:

  • The Comms and Events team works with all EPC programmes to enhance our communications and maximise our impact
  • the EPC website and social media channels are managed professionally
  • the EPC’s publications, podcasts and audio-visual products are of top quality
  • the EPC’s events are planned and communicated professionally to enhance the EPC’s overall strategic goals and messages
  • the Communication and Events Team is fully included in the EPC’s organisational development and grounded in the values of the organisation
  • A project management approach is taken to work across the team, including procurement
  • The Media Officer builds and deepens relationships with journalists in Brussels and, potentially, in the member states.

This role requires experience, flexibility, patience, leadership and empathy.

Person specifications:

  • Minimum 7 years of proven management and communications experience with prior leadership roles
  • Team player who is diligent and organised with strong attention to detail
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • In tune with the news cycle of today’s media environment, including online and social media platforms
  • Engaged with and experienced in EU affairs and committed to European integration
  • Able to digest large amounts of information and know how to disseminate it for best impact
  • Experience in think tanks and/or not-for-profit organisations is an asset but candidates from corporate or public sectors are also encouraged to apply
  • Proficient in written and spoken English; knowledge of French, Dutch or German also useful.
