Katharina Bamberg spoke on the intersections of EU migration policy and foreign policy during the opening panel of the fifth Korea-EU International Conference on Middle Eastern and North African Affairs in Seoul. The conference was organised jointly by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea and the European External Action Service. It convened senior delegations, prominent experts, and policymakers from a wide range of countries and international organizations and discussions centred on Korea-EU cooperation in the MENA region and insights from the EU’s migration policy.

Alberto Neidhardt gave a speech on the challenges of migration and asylum in Europe. He discussed policy responses and reform proposals of the recent past, and the likely future of the Common European Asylum System in the light of the nuanced results of the European Parliamentary Elections of May 2019.

Current trends in the area of asylum
Olivia Sundberg Diez participated in the European Asylum Support Office (EASO)’s workshop on ‘Current trends in the area of asylum and related analytical interests’, organised by EASO’s Information Analysis Sector together with the EASO Consultative Forum. The workshop contributed to the 2019 Annual Report on the Situation of Asylum in the European Union.
