CERV- ELEVATED REGRANTING: What next for the EU’s migration and asylum system after the New Pact?

As part of its work on the New Pact on Migration and Asylum, the EPC has re-granted the Odysseus Academic Network to support its research, analytical, and operational capacity. The Odysseus Network worked closely with the European Migration and Diversity (EMD) Programme to strengthen the dialogue on EU migration and asylum policies by contributing to the conceptualisation, organisation, and delivery of four closed-door roundtables with representatives from the EU institutions, member states, international organisations, academia and civil society. The roundtables contributed to a better understanding of several key reforms as well as challenges and further questions for reflection for their implementation. The re-granting activity also led to the publication of an edited book, comprising a series of analyses covering the new screening and border procedures, the new solidarity mechanism, crisis situations, as well as broader challenges, such as migration cooperation and the new Schengen Borders Code.

This Project is part of the EPC’s regranting scheme under project ELEVATED, sponsored by the European Commission's Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values Programme (CERV). The EPC has re-granted the Odysseus Academic Network to carry out activities on the New Pact on Migration and Asylum and other relevant reforms adopted in 2024.

The Project aims to:

  • Organize a strategic dialogue involving member states, EU institutions, and civil society organisations
  • Assess the potential impact of key New Pact reforms and identify possible implementation shortcomings
  • Identify possible actions to improve the workability of the reforms
  • Produce a book comprising a series of analysis relating to key New Pact reforms and related topics
  • Contribute to ongoing policy debates on the implementation of the reforms and help define policy priorities for the EU legislative cycle 2024-2029
Organisations wishing to be involved or support this project are invited to contact Alberto-Horst Neidhardt (ah.neidhardt@epc.eu) and Helena Hahn (h.hahn@epc.eu) for further details.
